RTU-810 Radio Modem for SCADA and Telemetry Applications

The RTU-810 is a state-of-the-art radio modem for SCADA and telemetry applications. A high RF output power of up to 10 Watt combined with high data transmission makes it ideal for connecting PLC's, RTU's or other SCADA equipment wherever a wired communication is not available.

The design as a software-designed-radio has prepared the RTU-810 for even higher data rates without the need of higher frequency bandwidth. The ability to use different bandwidths (6.25 kHz, 12.5 kHz, 20 kHz, 25 kHz) allows it to fit into nearly all allowed frequency scenarios.

Two completely independent serial interfaces, which can be either RS-232 or RS-485/422 are interfacing any type of equipment along with an 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet port which is used for the webserver based configuration and connection of IP based equipment.

Built-in digital and analog I/O, which can even be expanded, are building an interface to contacts, sensors and switches for setting up small to medium substations even without the need of an external PLC's or RTU's. Along with the PicoLogo application interface the user can build local control and alarm applications in the RTU-810 with the ease of a graphical editor.

All this comes in a single, rugged aluminum enclosure, which will directly fit onto a standard DIN-rail. The wide power supply voltage of 12-24V +/- 20% makes it ideal for automation and solar powered applications.

Basic device

The RTU-810 basic device always features the following interfaces:

· Serial interface "COM", SubD-9 connector female, RS-232 or RS-485/422 (Hardware Option)

· Serial interface "AUX", SubD-9 connector female, RS-232 or RS-485 (Hardware Option)

· Extension port interface, RJ-45, for connecting up to 16 I/O expansion modules type "PEM"

· Ethernet port 10/100 Mbit/s for connecting equipment or to configure the RTU-810 using the embedded webserver

RF Option

The RTU-810 can have two different types of radio hardware:

· Type "M": Radio with up to 500mW RF output power

· Type "H": Radio with up to 10W RF output power

RF compatibility

The RTU-810 is fully compatible with older Piciorgros devices (RTU-7xx, TRM-7xx,...) and can be intergrated seemlessly into older existing networks.

Expansion modules

The RTU-810 has a local I/O expansion port via which PEM I/O Extension Modules can be bus-connected to increase the number of I/O's of an RTU-810 station. When an RTU-810 is powered on, it first hecks this I/O expansion port and automatically determines the number and types of its local I/Os.

RF field strength indication

There are eight LEDs that indicate the field strength of the received radio signal. They always show the current occupation of the configured radio frequency, which includes any transmitter on that frequency. This can be used to watch the occupation by other radios and/or interferences. A configurable Peak Hold display (default on) shows the RF field strength of the last data telegram, which was addressed to a certain RTU-810. This always gives a view about the relevant RSSI value of data addressed to the device. If the latest received data is older than 15 minutes or if the device was restarted, this peak hold value flashes. The RSSI display is calibrated to show RSSI values between -115dBm and -60dBm.

Pico-Logo soft-PLC

The RTU-810 is optionally available with the PicoLogo soft-PLC feature that gives it autonomous logic control and other micro-PLC capabilities.

I/O Option

These different types of internal I/O are available on the RTU-810:

· DA1: 16 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, 4 analog inputs

· DA2: 16 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs

· DA3: 16 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs

· DA4: 16 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs

· DA5: 16 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, 4 analog outputs
